Balochistan has emerged as the largest provincial component of Pakistan's national olive plantation programme, with more than 3.19 million olive plants established across approximately 24,620 acres in 31 districts. According to the Associated Press of Pakistan, the figures form part of a nationwide programme covering millions of olive trees across more than 60,000 acres. Olive cultivation is being promoted as an agricultural opportunity in areas with suitable climatic and geographical conditions. For Balochistan, expansion of olive plantations could support diversification of agriculture and create opportunities for farmers in different districts. The province's large land area provides significant scope for agricultural development where water availability, soil conditions and climate permit. The development of olive farming is also linked to efforts to reduce dependence on traditional crops and promote higher-value agricultural products. The reported figures demonstrate the scale of the plantation programme currently underway in the province.
